Writing Our Past [see download below] offers practical ideas for supporting children as readers and writers.  It also seeks to develop their historical enquiry skills.  It is based on the work of children and teachers in Birmingham and Wolverhampton schools.

This resource is packed with ideas to support children to research and write about the achievements of people, from all over the world, who have lived in Britain.  For example it explores the life of Olaudah Equiano.

The project experience demonstrated that research/ideas grids and writing frames enhanced reading and writing skills.  Sample frames are on offer.

The project and publication were developed in partnership with the University of Central England, Faculty of Education.
